Collaboration with German Chamber - Agile Project Management Workshop in Shanghai
Shanghai, 7th August 2017 – Many foreign companies share similar experiences when entering the Chinese market - the traditional approaches frequently fail due to the fast changing requirements as well as the increasing complexity of projects in the high volatile Chinese business environment. Beyond software development, agile is increasingly perceived as a way to deal with these challenges as the approach allows and encourages changes as well ensuring project success by considering customer feedback from the beginning to the end. Thus more and more companies show strong interests in best practices with agile project management methods in order to improve their projects’ success rates.
With positive feedbacks from the previous workshop in Beijing, CPC Beijing further expands the collaboration with the German Chamber of Commerce China, by bringing the agile workshop to Shanghai. Great interests showed by double increased amount of participants, more than 35 participants from various industries background joined our CPC team – Michael Teubenbacher (Partner and General Manager), Christina Heinrichs (Senior Consultant ) and Betty Hou (Consultant) – to gain hands-on knowledge on Agile Project Management.
The concept of our workshop is simple – introducing agile principles by not only explaining the Scrum framework, but also sharing extensive practical experiences. Inspiring perspectives and real-business challenges were actively discussed between the participants and us along the entire workshop. Our participants had the chance to understand the differences between the traditional approach (Waterfall) and agile approach. Meanwhile, experiences on situations in which agile might not be the best of choice and lessons learned were also broadly shared within the group.
Besides gaining the theoretical knowledge on agile principles, agile planning and the Scrum framework, the participants also had multiple chances to apply the knowledge directly and gain first hand experiences. In groups, they jointly discussed the roles and responsibilities in a typical agile project environment. Through a mini-simulation case study, they developed product backlog items and prioritized them on group basis. Innovative results were presented to other groups, learnings and challenges were further exchanged in an open atmosphere. In the final Q&A session, additional insights on agile leadership as well as adapting culture elements were also discussed.
At the end of workshop, the digital version of our CPC Agile Pocket Guide was shared via WeChat with all participants. Many of the participants gave immediate good feedbacks and expressed their willingness on potential collaboration opportunities in adapting and customizing agile project management in Chinese business Environment.
